Working Out at 50 Something…

When you decide that you want to be more healthy, it can be difficult to find exercises that you will do every day. I have searched Pinterest for ideas and tried a few, but none that that I stuck with.

I needed to find something I enjoyed doing. I can dance and still drop it like it’s hot so I found a Youtube video doing the Tabata which I love. I also love strip pole exercise, and step aerobics. I took step aerobics in college and it did wonders for my metabolism, and I shedded off some of the love handles. I practice the strip pole exercise moves in the privacy of the home. Yes! I’m good at it.

I enjoy nice long walks, and bike riding. I have the cutest vintage looking bike, with a seat spread wide enough to cushion all this azz. Hubby and I do the walking and bike riding together. He’s three years older than me, and rides with no hands like he’s 20 something.

I am still like a little girl when I go to buy something I love. I purchased mine in Walmart, it was love at first sight, and I had to have it. Mr. felt the same way about his when he purchased it from the Tractor Trailer Warehouse.

We have a lot of fun riding on the walkway. If you are looking to stay consistent, a walking activity can be very beneficial too. It is much easier to take a walk every day than it is to hit the gym and lift heavy weights. I like to get up early after my coffee for a nice walk, especially if it is a beautiful sunny day.

I plug into my favorite music and get it in! Good music will push you to walk a few miles which is what we do on nice days. It’s calming, and I find people more friendly when you pass them with a smile or a thumbs up. I refuse to get old. I refuse to live a life of mediocrity, and complacency. I enjoy having fun, making memories, and doing things that give me a rush!

Carnival Victory Cruise out of San Juan Puerto Rico my 1st excursion, ZIP LINE

I was recording my last will and testament during the zip line, there were several lines stemming from short feet to long feet, and this one was one of the long feet lines! It was amazing, I was scared shitless on it, would I do it again? Hell yeah! YOLO!

If you are blessed to still be able to see, hear, smell, walk, run, then do it! I love days on the couch too, but only when it is raining real hard. Those days are for movies, and munchies, cuddling, sleeping, and eating all things not good for you. No worries, you will walk it off when the sun comes back out. Find the exercise that gets you moving and take the 30 to an hour doing it.

Central Park, New York, NY

There is nothing more romantic than a horse and carriage ride through Central Park in NYC. This was a surprise, set-up by my husband as an anniversary gift.

I was never one who enjoyed the hustle and bustle of the city. I enjoyed driving to Fordham Road to shop or seeing a few sites, but never thought about indulging in anything else NYC had to offer. My husband was born and raised in South Jamaica Queens, and it showed.

When we boarded the Metro-North train to the city, I was under the impression that we were going to shop, and have a bite to eat. I would have never guessed that he had arranged to take me on a horse and carriage ride through Central Park.

I’m an Upstate, NY girl, no match for the big city. While he was leading and doing the norm, I was clutching my bag, and watching my back. It was too crowded, people were moving to fast, and I am getting lost in the crowd, looking like a straight tourist, and that made me nervous. I watch to much Law & Order.

I was speechless when he told me where we were and why. I saw our horse and carriage and teared up. My husband had also presented me with this beautiful, chocolate diamond ring during the ride. I had so much fun with him on this day. I forgot about my fears of the city, and enjoyed the rest of day.

We walked blocks hand in hand, had lunch, a portrait of us made, and on the way back to the train, we stopped at my favorite shop, Juniors to get a piece of my favorite cake to take home.

This was definitely a memory I will never forget, and another dream crossed off my bucket list. I don’t care how old we get, women still have a little girl inside, and men still have a little boy inside. We were like to big kids on this day, and I think this is what keeps us young. Take the one you love and have some spontaneous fun.
